Pulpwood Queens annual Girlfriend Weekend Event!
So next month I’ll be attending the Pulpwood Queens annual Girlfriend Weekend for the…seventh time, I think? I first attended in 2007 when my first novel, Rain Village, was a book club pick, and wrote about it on Shelf Awareness.
I haven’t been back since 2015, when I dressed like a mermaid (I think the annual Hair Ball’s theme that year was to dress like your favorite literary character),
and I’m very excited to be returning, especially since this time I not only get to talk about The Faerie Handbook but I get to introduce Saturday’s keynote speaker and possibly my favorite living author as well as dear friend, Alice Hoffman. This will happen at 9am Saturday, January 13!
As you probably know, Alice just came out with a prequel to Practical Magic, The Rules of Magic, all about the aunts, and this inspired the witchy autumn issue of Faerie Magazine, which is probably my favorite one we’ve done (aside from the current medieval-themed winter issue of course).
We filled it with gorgeous witchy things, including this gem of an essay from Alice, an excerpt from The Rules of Magic illustrated by Charles Vess, and an essay by yours truly on the film Practical Magic. Everyone attending Girlfriend Weekend will get a copy of this issue. I can’t wait!
